Congratulations to Saint Patrick School's 2010 Volunteers-of-the-Year!

Loryn Ferrara - Ken Mannell Award for Volunteerism

Congratulations to Loryn Ferrara, the 2010 winner of the annual Ken Mannell Award for Volunteerism.

The award was created in 1997 in honor of its namesake, Ken Mannell, for the exceptional hours of dedication that he gave to the school.

Loryn has served our school community in a variety of capacities during the past six years, but most intensely during the past 5 years as the school’s volunteer coordinator.   She has arranged for volunteers for every event that we have throughout the year.  She is relentless in her pursuit to find people to support the school's mission through support in the classrooms, at lunch and recess, at special events, etc.

She attends and volunteers at mostly every major event:  selling raffle tickets at our parish auction, putting together our volunteer handbook, policing parking lot traffic whenever possible, and manning a variety of booths at Family Fun Days, to name a few.  Loryn supported the newly-formed Pelham Festival of Trees in 2009. She is a great cook and is very generous in sharing her culinary talents with the staff during Catholic Schools Week.  Loryn sells ducks after Mass at a moment’s notice, and she can give a great extemporaneous speech whenever called upon by the principal.

Loryn has helped to coordinate and has attended just about every event that we have offered during the past three years, while maintaining the career demands of a successful nurse-practitioner.   She is a devoted wife and mother of three who drives her children to and from Saint Patrick School from Haverhill, MA, every day and is now accompanied by the newest member of the Ferrara family, Flossie.

Roger Dumont, principal, said in a speech, “I am blessed to know Loryn and to have her as a key support person at Saint Patrick School. Her energy amazes me, and we have all benefited from her selfless dedication.”

Ken Eaves - Distinguished Alumnus Award

Saint Patrick School will celebrate 50 years of service to children in 2011, and we are proud of the successes of all of our alumni. One gentleman, in particular, has remained a loyal supporter of our school since his graduation many years ago and recently watched his first daughter graduate from St. Pat’s.

Ken Eaves has served our community in a variety of capacities over the years, most notably as school board chairperson for six years, assisting us during the long accreditation process. He also has shared, when requested, his electrical expertise to keep the building safe and up to code. Ken Eaves has been there to support Christmas tree sales, Family Fun Days, and so many other special projects during his second-generational commitment to St. Pat’s.

Congratulations and thank you, Ken!

Laurie Hogan - Special Tribute Award

Laurie is a dedicated, selfless individual who devoted 9 years to the children of Saint Patrick School as a member of the School Board. She is an accomplished professional in her own right, and recently she became a mother of three St. Pat’s graduates.  It’s the end of an era for her but also the beginning of a new one.

Laurie Hogan is a straight-out practicing attorney who always seems to manage the time to attend and/or help out at just about every fundraising event that we offer. She is there – always with girls in tow – either making popcorn, flipping burgers, digging into her wallet for the girls to support their school, providing bows for our Christmas wreath sales, or spear-heading the town Festival of Trees event with St. Pat’s always in mind.
